Almost before the second season of Netflix’s popular fantasy series, The Witcher, had even premiered, the streaming service made the thrilling revelation that The Witcher Season 3 is definitely in the works, too. And now that new dawn has started, with Netflix confirming on social media that the third season of The Witcher is now being filmed.
The Witcher Season 3
The good news for lovers of the fantasy series ‘The Witcher’ is that a new season is underway. Although the show’s second season has just recently been published, fans who have already binge-watched their way through it will not have to wait in anticipation for a word that the series will be continuing.
The return of the popular fantasy drama for a third season was announced back in September, so keep reading to find out all we know so far about the show. Production on The Witcher’s third season has officially begun! The news was confirmed on April 4 by the show’s official Netflix account, which posted a photo of Henry Cavill and other cast members (probably including Freya Allan) on set in a very snowy winter scene.
Additionally, we have the information on returning cast members and characters, some statements from creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, and our best guess when we could be seeing a trailer released. In addition, we’ve compiled a list of narrative aspects that may or may not be revealed in the source material.
The Witcher Season 3 Release Date
Previously, seasons of The Witcher required around seven months to film and another seven months to edit and post-produce. According to recent rumors, The Witcher Season 3 officially began filming on April 4 based on the expected production period. We anticipate that The Witcher Season 3 will be published in the first quarter of 2023.
Following the release of The Witcher on Netflix in December 2019 and the release of The Witcher Season 2 in December 2021, many Witcher fans and followers anticipated the release of a third installment in the Witcher series sometime in late 2022. However, with the announcement of The Witcher prequel, The Witcher: Blood Origin, which confirms its publication in 2022, we may anticipate Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer to return for The Witcher Season 3 in 2023, which will be the third season of the series.
The Witcher Season 3 Plot
It is based on a series of novels of the same name that gained international popularity. Andrzej Sapkowski is the author of both of those works of literature. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, on the other hand, is the one who transformed it into a full-fledged Netflix series.
Season 1’s main characters were Geralt of Rivia, Princess Ciri, and Yennefer. Added content from the films The Last Wish and The Sword of Destiny was used in season 2. There are five novels in the series, so we may anticipate that the third season will have more characters and stories than the first two.
After season two, a few things from the second book are brought up again. Following the novel’s narrative in the third series makes sense, as well. Ciri is a sorceress working on finishing her training until she meets Geralt, who becomes her mentor and friend.
The Witcher Season 3 Trailer
Not for the time being, however. Previous first views at The Witcher’s forthcoming season were released in July, more than five months before the game’s release in December of this year. Season 3’s release date will be necessary to provide further information. As soon as that’s confirmed, keep an eye out for a trailer to be released 4-6 months before the film’s debut — either during a ComicCon or a Netflix streaming event, depending on the situation.
The Witcher Season 3 Cast
Without our main characters, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy The Witcher, and we already know that Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), and Ciri (Freya Allan) will all return in the upcoming season.
Ciri and her fellow mages are likely to return in the next season, now that Triss Merigold (Anna Shaffer) has understood Ciri’s capabilities.
Furthermore, we anticipate the reappearance of the Witchers Vesemir (Kim Bodnia), Lambert (Paul Bullion), and Coen (Yasen Atour). They all survived their experience in Kaer Morhen during the season finale of series one. Netflix has announced the identities of four new actors appearing in season 3 of the program, which premiered in 2022 or 2023.
